In my last blog post I wrote about the book How To Meditate: A Beginners Guide.
I have been practicing meditation most days after I work out ( I am working on building strength in my neck, upper back and abdominal muscles as recommended by a very helpful osteopath) and my yoga practice. It has been helping me to feel more mindful in my day to day life. It is a valuable practice. In the book Yuttadhammo speaks about insomnia. Practicing meditation can be very helpful in resolving insomnia. Here is a quote to explain how the simple method of meditation that he teaches in his book and YouTube series can help insomniacs to sleep better:
“Insomnia is not a problem for meditators since they are able to meditate even in the lying position and keep their minds free from stress. People who have difficulty falling asleep should train themselves to watch the stomach rise and fall, noting “rising”, “falling”, all night if necessary. Even if they are not able to fall asleep ( which is unlikely, given the calm state of mind while meditating) they will find themselves rested as if they had slept soundly through the night.”
